Grand Theft Auto IV For The Xbox 360: The Review Is Mixed
For me Grand Theft Auto IV was a game I was going to avoid. I hate the series and even before it’s release I kept telling myself I am just going to skip this game. Of course as with any gamer if I don’t get the game one of my friends will and somehow I will be trapped into playing a game even if I don’t want to. That is what happened to me so here is my take on Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360.
The look
Much to my surprise when Grand Theft Auto first started I was shocked to think that maybe this time GTA was actually going to have a good story line. I was also pleased to see that the graphics were also pretty good, one of the things I hated about the past Grand Theft Auto games is the lame graphics.
The Game Play
As with most games there are several different types of game play for Grand Theft Auto IV. Some of them were great, others not so much. Let’s take a look at them one by one and see where Grand Theft Auto excelled and where they failed.
Driving the vehicles in Grand Theft Auto felt great! The steering was easy to handle and actually the music on the radios was pretty cool. While in previous Grand Theft Auto games the cops drove me crazy in the latest version of this game they seem to be a lot easier to deal with.
The melee combat on the other hand wasn’t really my cup of tea. I was pretty disappointed in the fact that instead of increasing both the players and the computer they only decreased the speed of the players and gave the computer a few crappy stun moves. Not to mention the feeling of the combat when I was playing was really off. Controlling my character was difficult, even for me a person who plays games daily. I can only image how someone who is new to the scene would feel. If I ever play this game again I will surely pass on the combat part.
The other side of the coin is the gun play which much to my surprise felt rewarding and easy to do. I give this part of the game a thumbs up for sure!
And then it happens
I knew that it was too good to be true, that I would actually 80% like a Grand Theft Auto game. Once you have gotten so far in the game you will see that once again the issues from previous games come back in full force. The creators seem to always miss the mark between difficulty and balance when it comes to the missions. Some are way too difficult and those are the ones that you are required to beat before moving on. No one wants to play a game where I get stuck doing the same hard mission over and over again, especially not me.
The result
All in all this is a decent game, especially if you’re the type of gamer who loved the previous Grand Theft Auto Games. If you hated them before, give it a try but you might still understand why you hate them because this one doesn’t break the mold all that much.
